Woodmanstern Primary

English

At Woodmansterne we have a thematic approach to the teaching of primary English that places children's literature at its core.

As a whole school approach,  it provides complete coverage of all National Curriculum expectations for writing composition, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, as well as coverage of spelling, phonics and reading comprehension leading to purposeful application for a wide variety of written outcomes.

We use Letters and Sounds, a resource to support the systematic teaching of phonics. It supports the development of children's speaking and listening skills as well as to prepare our children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.
